It is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.

4th Quarter Midterm and Updates

Emma had a great 4th Quarter Midterm
For English Emma had to write a "how to" paragraph to demonstrate to her class and she chose to demonstrate a Press Handstand.
In Science they have been discussing volcanoes. They divided into groups of two and made their own with small bottles and play dough. They talked about how their is hot melted rock inside a real volcano and that they really couldn't replicate it. They simulated an eruption with baking soda and vinegar. Some gently flowed and others shot up into the air depending on the amount of baking soda and how the vinegar was added! They also mad a lava cake. They baked it in the microwave, took it out, tipped it over, and watched the lava frosting flow all over the cake. They then got to eat it!
The final volcanic experiment they did was diet coke and menthos!
Last fall their class read The Song of Mulan, CY Stephens presented it as play in April so they took a field trip after rereading the story! I was able to attend this with their class and it was very funny and entertaining! They are looking forward to a few more field trips in May: an outdoor education class at Don Williams and the play Miss Nelson is Missing at the Des Moines Playhouse.

Lauren is enjoying her time in class, they have been learning about Spring and also about growing and changing. One of their favorite games to play in class is "The Butterfly Game" where they act out the cycle of metamorphosis- Egg-caterpillar-chrysalis-butterfly! They have also been looking at flowers, plants, frogs, and other animals. They have also talked about how they grow- Lauren has been talking about how excited she is for Pre-K next year!
I have enjoyed listening to Lauren tell me what she has been learning about Jesus and his part in the Easter story. From Good Friday and Jesus' crucifixion and the "wonderful things God did for us" to the empty tomb on Easter morning!

Here are some projects Lauren has been doing in class

And look how much it has grown!
They also learn a Chinese phrase every week
